July 27, 2011 | DEAR FANS – We wanted to reach out to you while we are on the road to make sure you’re havin’ a good summer and to keep you posted on the latest Dumpsta stuff happenin! This summer’s tour has been amazing so far with some stellar jams, not to mention new material, working in new drummer Nikki Glaspie!
After 5 colossal Jazzfest shows back home in New Orleans in May, we took to the road and hit Texas with our friends in Slightly Stoopid ending with a slamming kick off opening night at The Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, AL, one of the newest festival gems in America right here on our beautiful southern gulf coast! Memorial Day weekend was a double shot at The Pourhouse in Charleston, South Carolina, followed by a quick detour through the mid-west, and then out to the west coast hitting Santa Cruz, California, Bite of Bend in Oregon, and High Sierra Music Festival right there on the Feather River in beautiful Quincy, CA. Check out these videos from High Sierra and see us in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omSewMg18so&feature=player_embedded#at=15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N13uintEVrc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxUYGG9mPYA These being our first west coast runs with new drummer, Nikki Glaspie, we were anxious to get out to some festival audiences and show ‘em what we got in store! High Sierra was definitely the culmination, as we really hit stride at the late night set from 2am-4am and had guest sit-ins from Skerik on sax, Maceo Parker’s drummer, and De La from Slightly Stoopid. Ivan also sat in with Warren Haynes band during their set, and it ignited further from there as we made our way to Eugene, Oregon opening for our buddies in Widespread Panic before tackling the Waterfront Bluesfest in Portland, Dave Matthews Caravan in Chicago (see the photos attached), and the prestigious Ottowa Bluesfest in Canada, and ending our first leg U.S. run w a fine set at Gathering of the Vibes in CT. We were thrilled to be at the Vibes, and you can read a little about the show and see some video from Dig Boston: http://digboston.com/listen/2011/07/reporting-live-gathering-of-the-vibes-day-i/ And thanks to tapers, you can listen to the Vibes set here: http://www.archive.org/details/dumpstaphunk2011-07-21

We are very excited in welcoming our new drummer, Ms. Nikki Glaspie, to the hot seat! Nikki is a unique talent on the kit, most well known for her recent years on tour with Beyonce, and playing with everyone from Ceelo Green, Melvin Sparks, and Me’Shell Ndgeocello to Vernon Reid, The Original Meters, and Maceo of De La Soul, just to name a few. She’s also become a staple performer at the New Orleans JazzFest sitting in with the likes ofSoulive, Karl Denson, G Love & The Special Sauce, George Porter Jr. and, of course, The Dumpsta!
The sky is the limit with this band and we are really excited about the future, and all the new music we plan to kick out both live and in the studio!
We just jumped over the pond to Europe for the first time, and are enjoying playing some cool festivals abroad in Germany, Belgium and Italy, and will be back in the beginning of August with a slew of new U.S. tour dates.
We hope to see you all out there on the road gettin’ funky, sweaty and mixin’ it up with us in the Dumpsta!
