As most of you know, we don’t cover much reggae on BTS, but when we got the heads up about shooting the The Winter Greens Tour with The Green, Giant Panda Guerllia Dub Squad, and Rebelution, we figured it would be worth checking out. Admittedly, my knowledge of reggae starts with Black Uhuru and ends with Bob Marley, which by no means makes me an authority on the genre. With that said, this show was vastly different than my expectations. The prevailing sounds of the evening were a mix of poppy jam vibes, catchy vocal hooks, and many radio-friendly songs that a predominantly suburban, teen-crowd, swooned over. Unlike many opening acts that fail to connect with the audience, Hawaii’s The Green were able to draw the masses to the stage and had a full floor of bodies dancing to their island-styled raggae in minutes.
Headlining acts Giant Panda Guerllia Dub Squad and Rebelution had full control of the near capacity crowd during the second of two back-to-back performances at Philly’s TLA. Without further ado, here is the show in pictures:
